Case Study: Congestion hotspots in LGAs
Funding curb-side charging via residual electricity from private property
NRMA starting to charge non-members for its EV chargers
What do Australians think of public transport?
💼 Congestion hotspots in LGAs
➡️ The TL;DR: A local government wanted to understand congestion in their LGAs, when it was occurring, and irregular travel patterns.
Connected Vehicle data showed congestion was occurring at different sites and at different times, with hotspots occurring in specific locations across the LGA.
The data was visualised in a custom dashboard including, but not limited to:
Speed difference by road
Average G-force by vehicle point
Average G-force by OSM ID
Low-speed hot spots
The data was customised to allow for different day and time selections to be made on demand, enabling the LGA to see speeds, congestion and potential near misses on any roads, in any selected date range.
⚡️ Democratising curb-side EV charging across the U.S.
What’s going on?
Brooklyn-based startup, It’s Electric, is tackling a lack of curb-side EV charging by leveraging spare electrical supply from nearby private properties.
What does this mean?
The company is providing an alternative perspective to the way we facilitate curb-side electric vehicle charging. By partnering with property owners to unlock access to untapped electricity, they give them the option to earn a passive income while making it easier for everyone to charge EVs.
Why should I care?
Alternative to public curb-side charging infrastructure that benefits private households as well as EV owners.
Helps to fill the gaps in existing public charging networks.

💰NRMA to charge non-members for EV chargers
What’s going on?
The free EV fast-charging service provided by motoring group NRMA across Australia is expected to come to an end within the next 12 months. The network has been offering free charging since 2017.
What does this mean?
Non-members can expect to pay to use the NRMA charging network in the next 12 months. They’ve already started installing new charging machines that include a credit card reader. These readers are not being activated (yet).
Why should I care?
Expect to start paying for charging on the NRMA EV network soon. New chargers with credit card readers are being installed in new sites and existing ones are being upgraded.
The infrastructure upgrade might allow for two vehicles to charge simultaneously.
